Meet the team
Our long‑standing team is the heart of The Oaklands. We never use agency staff — only familiar, trusted carers who provide consistent, compassionate support. Each team member brings warmth, experience and genuine care to daily life.
The people you'll meet
Louise Bertorelli
Owner and Registered Provider
Louise owns The Oaklands with her husband Jaco and oversees the running of the home, from staffing and training to its registration with Care Inspectorate Wales.
Jaco Van der Merwe
Registered Manager
Jaco is the Registered Manager. He specialises in mental health. Before working in care he was a psychologist and a teacher, and he trains the whole team in moving and handling and in understanding dementia.
Rhian
Care Manager
Rhian looks after the daily care and support of our residents. She is usually the first person you speak to when you call or email.
The care team
Our carers help residents with washing, dressing, meals and medication, and spend time with them through the day. We have a very stable staff group and do not use agency staff, so residents see the same faces day after day.
Every carer is registered with Social Care Wales, has an enhanced DBS check and holds, or is working towards, a level 2 or 3 qualification in health and social care. New carers spend two weeks working alongside experienced colleagues before they work on their own, and two carers are awake and on duty through every night.
